About the Authors
The Student Web Portfolio Workshop was written and is facilitated by experienced teachers, online and in-person.
Tom Gromak has been online since before the World Wide Web was invented. In the 1990’s he was a partner in a web development firm, where he helped businesses get online and leverage their presence. Now, that experience has been brought into his teaching career, where he’s helped students empower themselves through the use of technology for over a decade.
As an Educational Technology Coordinator at Watkinson School in Hartford, Connecticut, he continues to find innovative ways to inspire and support young people who are learning how to navigate their online lives. He is also a Google for Education Certified Innovator, sharing the power of Google Apps with schools and educators around the world, and is a skilled online learning facilitator.
Jennifer O’Brien, Ph.D. is science teacher with over 20 years experience teaching middle school through college level students. While earning her doctorate in ecology at the University of Connecticut, she discovered her passion for teaching and helping students explore their strengths and passions.
Through her experience writing college, internship and job recommendations as well as being a member of a college counseling profile writing team, she has helped countless students achieve their goals and fulfill their potential. Working with students to create web portfolios is another example of the use of innovative technology that is the cornerstone of her teaching.
A trained facilitator, she leads an adult professional development group and has given talks on the use of technology in education across the country. Jen is currently the Director of the Global Studies Diploma Program at Watkinson School in Hartford, Connecticut where she also teaches high school science and supervises independent study students.
